Rocky Mountain Field Institute Citizen Science Program- Ecological Restoration Monitoring

May 2019

The 2019 Citizen Science season is well on its way. New this season are open participation dates in which anyone can participate regardless of their citizen scientist training status. This effort facilitates communication and recruitment with organizations with whom we partner including Friends of the Garden of the Gods and the southeast chapter of the Colorado Native Plant Society
Please share the poster (below) and we hope to see you at one of our upcoming open dates.
It’s been a bit slow this season with regard to learning about RMFI’s trail priorities in the 2019 season. I have a meeting next week to firm up the priority trails list. When I have that information, we will commence our baseline measurements for new trails.
At the end of last season, we agreed to measure the existing trails in our portfolio only once per season. This will occur in the fall season. We will also collect follow-up data on new trails in the fall.
So, in short, we have less to do (per trail) in the trail measurement protocols. If you want to participate in this data collection, please keep an eye from an email from me in the next week for scheduling information for the baseline collection this spring. Then we will come back to that in the fall.
All the other data we collect (vegetation data, observation of closed trail compliance) can be collected during these open dates (see poster below).  I hope you will participate in these open dates. This will provide more face time with me for mentoring and afford you the opportunity to help guide new participants in their learning and data collection.
That being said, we have a botany date coming right up on Tuesday May 14th. Please register here: https://conps.org/mfm-event-calendar/#!event/2019/5/14/rocky-mountain-field-institute-citizen-science-program
